BlueJacking - the Sales Tool

Imagine walking down the high street, stopping every now and again to look at stuff in the shop windows.

All of a sudden your mobile phone alerts you to an incoming BlueTooth message - have you just been BlueJacked?

This time no...

You read the message...

Hi, come into 'Liberty Fashions' for an instant special offer - quote 'BT1' to the Staff

You look confused, you are standing outside of Liberty Fashions but how did they just do that? You step inside and are met by one of the floor walkers. "Hi, how may I help you?" they enquire. "Not sure" you reply "but what if I quote BT1?"

The staff member withdraws a card from their pocket and scans it... "Ahh BT1" they say, "you have just won 25% off anything in the Store"

Stepping back in amazement, you just realise that the red dress that was in the window, which 10 minutes ago you thought was too expensive, could now be affordable. Out with the credit card.

On the way out, you start texting your mates with details of what happened and the £35 you just saved.

Over the next two hours, 5 of your friends and 8 of their friends all turn up at the shop with BlueTooth switched on - and everyone of them gets a different 'offer'.

The above is just fiction at the moment, but over the next year or so it will become reality. The software is being written and BlueTooth devices with a 100m range are becoming available so before long you will be checking your cash, counting the credit cards and enabling BlueTooth before you go shopping....

Do we want it? Doesn't really matter because if you don't then simply switch off BlueTooth. Me, I can't wait!
